Debbie Carlos

Do you know what I did? I went and won a debbie carlos giveaway over at Live & Enliven - and I won that poster up there!! And it has arrived! And I'm geekily excited about this magnificent thing and I'm keeping it safe and protected until I can hang it up in my new flat - it has upped the moving excitement x10. I'm easy to please. I'm more than likely going to get another one, too, I just have to check out the wall space and decide! That's all - just wanted to share :)

Gerhard Richter

Thursday, April 14, 2011

"These blurred paintings of photographs are close to reality but also contain a nostalgic distance, because the eye can never precisely capture the image being viewed, rather like trying to remember the features of a person whom one hasn't seen for a while." (source)
I've never been one to claim a favorite artist but as silly as it sounds, my world might have just shifted a little with the discovery of photo-based painter, Gerard Richter (thank you to nga waiata). Born in Dresden in 1932 he grew up during the Nazi movement with significant family involvement on both sides of the tragedy.  Thanks to his mother he was encouraged to study art and the rest is beautiful history. (You can read more of his interesting biography here) He has such a wide variety of work and my only disappointment is that some of his pieces been sold for millions, ensuring that I'll never get to own one =(

The top left painting is of the Vierwaldstättersee (The lake of the 4 forested cantons or Lake Luzern), the lake that I live on - and the left is of the beautiful alps. sigh. It attracts me because I live there, but also, it reminded similar-ish pictures that I've taken.

Anyway, I'm completely enamored.

Moleskin Art

Wednesday, February 16, 2011

So some artists actually drew/painted these...in a moleskin. Impressive! I think it would annoy me that it was trying to close all the time, know what I mean? You can see a lot more examples here

Well now, I'm off to run some errands around rainy Luzern (which is beautiful). We are apartment searching (we live outside of the city now) which is turning out to be more like an olympic sport. It's very competitive and you have to be ready! And aggressive! And prepared! (all while not speaking fluent german!)

Jungkunst Exhibit

Thursday, November 11, 2010

A couple weekends ago, Mark, Bama and I visited an art exhibition that is put on to showcase the artwork of young artists in Switzerland. (Jungkunst) It gives them a platform to sell their work as well as a relaxed atmosphere and affordable prices for people who are interested in purchasing their first pieces. I was in love with the venue - the top floor of huge industrial building with tons of natural light, huge windows - and random pipes, you know what I mean! It was cool!

I don't think Bama felt the same..
(I really want to to invest in a cool piece of art, have you ever done so? I haven't quite been able to part with that much money yet. One of these days...)

My eyes like.

Studio M.M.E

Monday, June 21, 2010

I was so excited to have ran across the Studio M.M.E. blog - where artist Megan M. Eckman writes as well as showcases and discusses some of her art which she sells in her Etsy Shop.  There is something about this Ghost Fish print that had me stalking her blog and waiting for her to finish it so that I could buy it right up.  It's so unique and ghost-like - There is just something about it that I love!
She was reminiscing about that game at the fair - where you throw the ping pong balls in to the fish bowls, remember? It was my favorite and when I was in HS I won a fish (a.k.a rescued it) that lived for something crazy like 3 years...it grew really huge too and for it being a fish, I kind of loved it a lot =)
Here are some of her other items that I liked!

Update! I just saw that For the Easily Distracted featured Studio M.M.E today also AND is doing a give away where you can select one of her pieces! Check it out!
