Up & Coming Swiss Designers

Tuesday, November 9, 2010

The fated shoe vending machine. I wonder if it is still vibrating?

The last show I went to was the Up & Coming Swiss Designers. There are so many great looks..I could write about this for ages! (No worries though, this is the last post ;))

Marissa and I started the morning with coffee and gipfeli in the VIP tent. Then I headed to the Smashboxx people who were set up giving makeovers to try a lip color (I don't wear lipstick, do you?). They used 'Delightful'...and it was. We also each got their intuitive lip-gloss as a gift which I'm in love with!

Now, on to the clothes - it was so interesting to see what designers in this country are working on as they make their way in to the fashion industry. There were 5 sets and I tried my best to condense!
(These are all of my pictures, thus you get to see my embarrassing attempt at fashion show photography which definitely improved by the end!)

The shoes weirded me out a tiny bit...

Loved the fabrics, very unique.

I was a fan of the simple but feminine silouettes.

The story of a warrior taking an inward journey and choosing to become poetic and graceful.

And my favorite, Toujours Toi - Family  Affairs
(and when I learned how to take better pictures)

And that is all! Thanks so much for your excitement and it was so fun to give you a glimpse in to what's going on in the fashion industry here in Switzerland!

My friend, Elisa, covered the next days Swiss Textile Awards if you're interested!

And nowwww back to regular posting. Phew!

Opening Night Show ~ Fashion Days Zurich ~ 2010

Monday, November 8, 2010

Ok, so lets look at the CLOTHES! ...and lack thereof! Penelope & Monica Cruz designed their hearts out working with the team from Charles Vögele to bring these fashions to the stores here.  Headlining ZFD and creating this partnership are amazing steps for a store trying revamp its image. I have read some criticism regarding this opening night show - some opinions that it didn't bring the fashion, it was boring, what were they thinking. Ok, maybe - but then again - it's relate-able to the majority of the population and wearable in the streets - it's the circle of life, people. There were plenty of crazy things later on to keep those fashion thrill seekers happy and the rest of the crowd confused at what they just saw but inspiring us all the same. It was a fun time.

Part I
Hiiiii. Your scarf is good.
And some more of my favorites:

Ok yeah, not sure what I think about this. Well, actually I do. Marks getting a pair of yellow leggings for Christmas. Just kidding.

Biaggini Lingerie for Charles Vögele

So the boys would stop and look all sexily in to the crowd. Huge fan, nothing bad to say here.

Performance by Alesha Dixon
Her and her dancers brought it...

Fashion Days Zurich - Opening Night, the VIP Tent

Sunday, November 7, 2010

Famous model..Uh..JK, it's just me.
Upon my arrival to Puls 5 in the Industrial District of Zurich last Wednesday, I could definitely feel the buzz and anticipation in the air as we all gathered to witness Zurich's inauguration into the International Scene of "fashion weeks". For the past 10 years, Zurich has put on an annual Textile Awards show (last years winner was Alexander Wang) but until this year, had yet to host runway shows that could boast the designers that have been at home in Paris, Milan, NYC and other major International cities for years.

Marissa and I began the evening at the cocktail dinner provided in the VIP tent. I'm sure we were surrounded by important people, though - I definitely could not tell you who they were but I can tell you that the appetizers were delicious. In fact, I was much too preoccupied with eating the shrimp with mango pieces and exclaiming out-loud to Marissa "THIS IS SO COOL" to take many pictures. Surround me with free food and free drinks and basically everything else is just white noise...
So, I shall take advantage of my press pass and use some of their pictures that I missed taking because I was too busy eating..(I'm such a newb)(I hate that word but thats the only way to describe what I was)
Alesha Dixon & Alexander Wang

*Alesha performed at the show that night
*Monica is Penelope's sister and was there to present their clothing line, Biaggini Violett.

And thanks to Tilllate.com for snapping pictures of the crowd which was the most interesting to me! Observations below:

-You must go here to see the fashionable and non-fashionable line-up of attendees.
-And since I didn't make the not-so-good dressed list here, you can go check out Zurich streetstyle photographer Tina Weiss's sight for a pretty blunt opinion of the outfits of the evening.

Basically, I wish I could make you look at EVERY picture and talk about them with me, but we all have ADD attention spans so I will not. I had a really great time hanging out with Marissa and checking everyone out before the show. While I didn't know what to expect, I didn't see THAT many amazing outfits - which I guess is what I unconsciously expected.  We are in Switzerland - there is just not much choice for shopping when local malls are flooded with stores like Chicoree and Tally Weijl and H&M.  You really have to go out of your way to shop creatively and find boutiques with unique or different clothes.  Switzerland as a whole is just not known right now for fashion - but there are some people that do stand out on the streets. (You could actually probably describe most countries like this).  But, that being said, I really think that the new Zurich Fashion Days will help inspire people and based on the Up and Coming Designers show - I think that Zurich is on the right track to become noticed in the greater International Fashion Industry.

Tomorrow I'll post some pictures of the designs from the Opening Night Show then Tuesday I'll cover the Up&Coming Swiss Designers Show (and more about the shoe vending machine of course!)

AND, if you made it this far and still read everything - I'm impressed and thank you =)

Oh, hello

I REALLY want that hat!
Just kidding...but the sweater is mighty nice right?

Ohh so where do I begin about Fashion Days Zurich? Maybe about the time I broke a vending machine because I bought 5chf flats out of it and then it wouldn't stop vibrating? No really, we went back 2 hours later and it was still going - sorry coat check people! And how classy is buying 5chf flats out of a vending machine at a fashion show? You can't take me anywhere.

AND, so I took your advice and took a ton of pictures - but before I subject you to looking at them all I must organize and edit and all of this, no? But seriously, thanks for your excitement and messages to have a good time - it really was quite incredible and I can't wait to fill you in! There were some crazycakes outfits but also some really beautiful male models clothes that I want to show you. K? K!
