Daniel Zender Umbrellas

Wednesday, May 17, 2017

Every year I'm surprised by how much it rains in Switzerland. Every year. I'm also surprised by how many times I lose my umbrellas...so now I've stockpiled some in the office, at home, hidden in the train station (jk), etc etc. should I add one of these to my collections?!

In With Mules and an Update

Monday, May 1, 2017

I would wear these everyday. even in winter. would that justify the price?!

aaand...BLOG UPDATE!
We all know it can happen...but I've become totally stuck with blogging and the name 'Village'. It was perfect back in 2009 when I moved to a...well, Village in Switzerland and stepped in to the blogging world. I had so much fun at the beginning and this blog was the cause of meeting so many people and some interesting adventures until I had to take a step back due to full time work, a new human, etc...but now its years later, styles later and most importantly dreams later. I've always dreamt of opening my own store and over the past years I've been brainstorming plus taking care of some baby steps to make the dream more of a reality...and it becomes more and more of that everyday. There's still a lot of behind the scenes work to do but I hope to make it happen! Thats why in the next month or so, this blog will be changing...New URL, new look, same vibe...its also on Instagram now if you want to follow along (see below).

Sculptures - Crystal Morey

Wednesday, April 19, 2017

I have no idea where I would put one of these sculptures, but there is something cool about them, so I thought I would share..
After reading her bio, I learned that the artist, Crystal Morey, is concerned with the interactions that humans have with nature - and the effect that we have on the enviornment...namely, disrupting it and the uncertain outcome of our effect.
As a species, we sit at a pivotal moment, faced with monumental questions leading to difficult, uncertain answers. My figures exist on this frontier, absorbed in their own feelings of stress, anxiety and ambivalence. Sculpted from the silken white earth of porcelain, I see these delicate figures as containing power – as modern talismans and precious telling objects. They are here to remind us of our current trajectory and potential for destruction and downfall.
Its actually moving to read what she writes about her work.

Do Ho Suh

Thursday, March 16, 2017

currently: feeling jealous of Londoners and all of the cool exhibits that they have access to. this current installation at Victoria Miro Gallery by Do Ho Suh depicts how he sees life as a journey with no fixed beginning or ending. He mixes his own ideas of migration and identity with a gentle reminder to everyone of what we miss when we are always focused on a destination. I wish I could see this!

Milo Made // Pottery

Wednesday, March 15, 2017

someone tell me how (short of just showing up to their studio one day and awkwardly begging them to take me in) I can quit my job, live in London and just make beautiful clay things all day and sell them?

Modernist Estates

Tuesday, March 14, 2017

A few weeks back I posted about some books that I had on my buy list - so I bought Modernist Estates and devoured it. Its provides an inside look at 21 different estate housing schemes in Britain, beautiful photography and interviews with residents who live there. You get such an overview - like a brief history of the architects who designed them and the ups and downs of the buildings from when they were built until now...its a really cool book. Anyway, this is print that is offered in the Modern Estates shop (where you can also get 20% off books/prints/etc right now with the code 'Modernist20')

Ten Meter Tower - Short Film

Friday, February 24, 2017

Here is something for your w/e...this short film by Maximilien Van Aertryck is cute, funny, thrilling, etc etc etc...I was on the edge of my seat, like I was the one who was supposed to jump! People are faced with having to jump off of a 10 meter tower or climb down - such an interesting view in to human vulnerability and choice. (the couple was my favorite..i laughed out loud). Watch it here

I don't read Vogue but I guess I do, this article caught my eye because of this Italian shoe designers beautiful style/aesthetic. Maybe she'd do a closet swap with me. Mari? (I need more velvet pants)

David Oesch // Photographer

Wednesday, January 18, 2017

Last weekend or so I went to a photo exhibit in Zurich that was showing the work of Swiss Photographers - a few caught my eye and I wanted to share them with you. David Oesch is from Thun, Switzerland. These weren't the pictures from the exhibit - but are on his website (and posted here with his permission!). I saw them and was so struck by his ability to capture emotion and the expressions...a true glimpse in to a person. Really love it. But visit his page because his portrait/nature/landscape photos are equally as involving.

Grid Planner

Monday, January 16, 2017

Here is a blank slate planner if I ever saw one! I found it too late and already bought a Moleskin planner because I was stressed that the new year was coming and I couldn't organize myself appropriately without a planner...but this one is just so FREE! (found on Poketo)

What am I doing??

Friday, January 13, 2017

Happy Friday everyone! I can't get over this epic mural in Luzern at the Neubad. The Neubad is this old pool that they've turned in to kind of a cultural venue - it has a delicious café/bar, atelier and hosts many events like concerts (in the old pool sometimes), film nights, discussion nights about the city/culture, etc. Its a really cool place. now I just need to learn german better.
Here are some Links from around the internet this past week:
+ Hoping I can wear  this exact outfit somewhere
+ Actually reading through the archives in this cool online magazine that I found (North Mag). Their music taste won me over.
+ During those good mood groovy feeling times, listening to From Disco to Disco
+ Feeling a little financially inspired (and itchy to get some priorities straight) by reading this article about people who retire in their 30's and then also watching that Minimalism Documentary that everyone is talking about. Despite the hype, I actually really liked it. They aren't crazy, but actually super practical and it makes sense. (now can I sell the online copy that I bought? :/)
+ Listening to the new Bonobo Album. like, right at this exact moment actually.
+ Maintaining interest in my blog again. Also, thinking of a rebranding. new name/new look.

Special Question!

Sarah Cain

Wednesday, January 4, 2017

By using a floor painting which activates the entire space, Sarah Caine explores the boundaries between painting, sculpture, and installation in her exhibit "Dark Matter". I just want to walk on the floor. Can you imagine all the instagrammers going crazy with their shoes and the floor? I'd do it for sure.

Album Cover Design

Monday, January 2, 2017

Somehow, somenight, fell in to a rabbit hole of album covers/design and I decided that I love it a lot. This was foreshadowed 5 years ago when I bought a record because I couldn't walk away from the cover! and I didn't get a record player until recently. which is more important here?!
