all these things no. 6

this painting though...and all of the others by Mark Horst capture me a bit. a lot.
I paint as a way to see and to know the world. Yet the world is never finished and the joy of seeing it is never complete—and so my painting points to the fleeting, the glimpsed, to the life that is always present and so difficult to touch. - mark horst

Interesting Links

Friday, September 22, 2017

Whats up? This weekend I'm in Amsterdam with some girls. ladies. what age are we anyway? Do you have any recommendations? That photo is from when I was there 2 years ago!

But anyway, here are some links I thought were interesting this week:

+ From a blackberry lover to you and your new iPhone....the iPhone dongle!

+ But then...the problem with our phones. yikes.

+ A really great article at remembering our advantages when we're discussing inequality (via)

+ This article (not that I googled it or anything): 5 Things to Do When Your Child Isn't Listening

+ I liked seeing the wallpaper inside this detroit fixer upper. and then also this church in London that was converted to an INSANE house.

+ These wall sconces on Amazon are so cool. (via )

+ On wearing whatever. you. want.

+ 12 awesome pieces of art for kids

Preschoolers Pockets

Wednesday, September 20, 2017

When we are outside, I LOVE to see what Wesley finds interesting and wants to keep and "take home". He once spent months collecting "treasures" which we kept in a bowl for when his grandma came to visit - it included rocks, feathers, sticks, etc (and she flew it all home with her)!

Thats why I thought this project by Melissa Kaseman was so incredibly beautiful...called "a taxonomy report of a childs imagination" - go to her website to see more of these pictures as well as her other work!

The bag caught my eye, but the story caught my heart

Monday, September 18, 2017

Beautiful, right? It's by Portland based Kozha Numbers and its called The Utility. (But I have to wait for a bigger one because I'm ridiculous and carry 800 things with me every day)

But what I really like about this brand is the way it started - 2 girls...stuck in the corporate nightmare...wanting to get out - and the idea of these bags were born. Then they bought a sewing machine and spent a year or so researching materials and processes...and the bags were born.
Kozha Numbers evolved in to a brand through the founders (Ilona Gerasimov & Lena Vasilenko) admiration for art, architecture, material and form. (from their website)
Well done, ladies.

8 things I'm up to

Friday, September 15, 2017

I think today it finally hit me that fall is here so like every girl ever I took a picture of my feet and the leaves and my coat happened to match the leaves which elevated the photo a little and then obviously instagrammed it.

Here are some things I'm up to...what are you up to?

8 Things:

+ I'm in the middle of "move blog from blogger, do everything wrong at wordpress, take forever to figure it all out" hell. btw.
+ Wondering if I'm the only one who has to google instructions on how to cook rice or quinoa or couscous every. single. time?
+ Giving in and ordering some makeup from NYC's Glossier as its reached cult status and I have to see if the boy brow is everything all these insta girls claim it is.
+ Made this roasted vegetables with Quinoa with this sauce that is insane good. and healthy. and filling.
+ Spending my train rides listening to the Podcast "Open Account" by Suchin Pak. Each episode is an interview with someone about money and how they think about it and handle it - such interesting stories so far.
+ Working on and dreaming of my branding for the new blog, Chemistry, and feeling the fever of opening a store, working with brands and highlighting people who make beautiful things. Do you know any talented souls with creative style to recommend for building a wordpress theme for the blog?
+ Instablogging.
+ Frequently checking back at this instagram account: masha.socialmedia - I somehow stumbled across her and started to read her posts about instagram and social media in general - and its truly solid advice - she's practical, witty and most importantly, knows what she's talking about. I highly recommend her if you're interested!

Vintage Ceiling Lamps

Wednesday, September 13, 2017

I'm seriously obsessed with every lamp/ceiling light in the vintage collection of The Apartment - and actually everything else they have for that matter...each item is on display in restored 18th century apartment in Copenhagen - I can't wait to get back there just so I can visit this store.
The Apartment was conceptualized with a desire to create a unique platform for exceptional decorative arts and design. Our interior is edited with an international scope, and we are proud to feature unique design pieces, usually produced in a limited edition (theapartment.dk)

Tradono Red

Monday, July 17, 2017

To follow up on the Tradono topic from a couple of posts ago - I thought I'd share some items that I recently favorited on the app. There are many more...but...I suddenly liked the red theme. Also, I basically only wear white and black and grey and sometimes jewel tones…. But since now its summer I like to get a little crazy with red. (also, I have yet to wear red). But we can talk about my aversion to color some other time..for now...feast your eyes on these…ravishing…rad…ruby…resplendent…red purchases you can make to help save our planet because you’re being smart and purchasing second hand!! (especially buy the crop top because its mine!)

Some really! great! articles!

Tuesday, July 11, 2017

I usually have Monday links. Or Friday links. But this week I’m getting crazy and giving you some on Tuesday. Also, its dumb to specify on days since I do whatever I want anyway (and probably haven't even done this consistently since 2009). But Here are some really good articles…my favorites are the one on bailing and the one on time wasting. Let me know what you think!
P.S. This picture is by Kirsten Beets from a really beautiful instagram account (@kirst_b_kind)

+On bailing. Are you a serial bailer? Bailing drives me crazy so I've been careful lately to not make commitments that I won't want to keep.

+ I've always wondered if I could not buy clothes for a year. Wit & Delight interviews someone who did and its so interesting! ...but anxiety purchases feel so good!!

+ Celebrities on how they spend/deal with their money

+ How you are wasting 50+ hours a week. This article came at a good time for me - I've been veryyyy lazy lately.

+The benefits of kicking your smart phone habit and pursuing boredom.

Tradono Interview

Friday, June 23, 2017

So today I feel a little bit special because Simone, the PR manager at Tradono interviewed me for their blog! You can read it (or not read it) here!

The Startup Tradono is a flea market app which was founded in Denmark 3 years ago and last year was implemented in Switzerland. It was recently even featured on theculturetrip.com as one of 10 Danish startups to watch out for - so if you love flea markets, but also love to stay in bed on Saturday mornings...definitely get this downloaded :D

I've been using it for maybe a year now (maybe you remember I mentioned it in a blog post). Since then Simone and I have been writing back and forth about random things, Tradono and apps and I've been able to share some ideas on what could be improved from a users perspective, etc- and I've really enjoyed the discussion with her. Since I started using it, I've definitely seen many improvements to the app and its functionality - and I'm excited to see what else is in store for it!

And obviously, if you're reading this and you're in Switzerland - you can download the Tradono app on google play, join in the fun and then checkout my shop!

    Wednesday, June 14, 2017

Its time now for the Swiss Design Awards and Art Basel and so I imagine that Basel is the place to be in Switzerland right now. I've been stalking all the insta photos and hoping that my small window of opportunity on thursday brings me there. Slowdown Studio

    Monday, May 29, 2017

Slowdown Studio has me trippin' with their collaborations with artists to make blankets. Why have I posted twice recently about blankets and its almost summer? Thats how much I love blankets. I hate replacing my down comforter in the summer with the lighter one. What job can I get that is me just laying under blankets all day? Ok anyway...go to slowdownstudio.com for more - and they have free worldwide shipping. I hope that becomes a trend!

    Sam Francis

    Friday, May 26, 2017

Sam Francis, abstract art...I love his tamer works. I always shy away from loud colors and prints but something about his work caught my eye!

    S.D Evans Quilts

    Tuesday, May 23, 2017

I wish that I could do a lot of things - and making quilts as beautiful as these is one of them. Season Evans is truly an artist with fabric - and I am truly an artist in wrapping myself up in blankets and chilling - I wouldn't be able to choose. I even have an alert on for when she posts on Instagram because even her photos are lovely to look it (or I'm a stalker, idk). You can see more at her website: sdevans.com

    Daniel Zender Umbrellas

    Wednesday, May 17, 2017

Every year I'm surprised by how much it rains in Switzerland. Every year. I'm also surprised by how many times I lose my umbrellas...so now I've stockpiled some in the office, at home, hidden in the train station (jk), etc etc. should I add one of these to my collections?!

In With Mules and an Update

    Monday, May 1, 2017

I would wear these everyday. even in winter. would that justify the price?!

    aaand...BLOG UPDATE!

We all know it can happen...but I've become totally stuck with blogging and the name 'Village'. It was perfect back in 2009 when I moved to a...well, Village in Switzerland and stepped in to the blogging world. I had so much fun at the beginning and this blog was the cause of meeting so many people and some interesting adventures until I had to take a step back due to full time work, a new human, etc...but now its years later, styles later and most importantly dreams later. I've always dreamt of opening my own store and over the past years I've been brainstorming plus taking care of some baby steps to make the dream more of a reality...and it becomes more and more of that everyday. There's still a lot of behind the scenes work to do but I hope to make it happen! Thats why in the next month or so, this blog will be changing...New URL, new look, same vibe...its also on Instagram now if you want to follow along (see below).

    Sculptures - Crystal Morey

    Wednesday, April 19, 2017

I have no idea where I would put one of these sculptures, but there is something cool about them, so I thought I would share..
After reading her bio, I learned that the artist, Crystal Morey, is concerned with the interactions that humans have with nature - and the effect that we have on the enviornment...namely, disrupting it and the uncertain outcome of our effect.
As a species, we sit at a pivotal moment, faced with monumental questions leading to difficult, uncertain answers. My figures exist on this frontier, absorbed in their own feelings of stress, anxiety and ambivalence. Sculpted from the silken white earth of porcelain, I see these delicate figures as containing power – as modern talismans and precious telling objects. They are here to remind us of our current trajectory and potential for destruction and downfall.
Its actually moving to read what she writes about her work.

    Do Ho Suh

    Thursday, March 16, 2017

currently: feeling jealous of Londoners and all of the cool exhibits that they have access to. this current installation at Victoria Miro Gallery by Do Ho Suh depicts how he sees life as a journey with no fixed beginning or ending. He mixes his own ideas of migration and identity with a gentle reminder to everyone of what we miss when we are always focused on a destination. I wish I could see this!

    Milo Made // Pottery

    Wednesday, March 15, 2017

someone tell me how (short of just showing up to their studio one day and awkwardly begging them to take me in) I can quit my job, live in London and just make beautiful clay things all day and sell them?

    Modernist Estates

    Tuesday, March 14, 2017

A few weeks back I posted about some books that I had on my buy list - so I bought Modernist Estates and devoured it. Its provides an inside look at 21 different estate housing schemes in Britain, beautiful photography and interviews with residents who live there. You get such an overview - like a brief history of the architects who designed them and the ups and downs of the buildings from when they were built until now...its a really cool book. Anyway, this is print that is offered in the Modern Estates shop (where you can also get 20% off books/prints/etc right now with the code 'Modernist20')

Ten Meter Tower - Short Film

    Friday, February 24, 2017

Here is something for your w/e...this short film by Maximilien Van Aertryck is cute, funny, thrilling, etc etc etc...I was on the edge of my seat, like I was the one who was supposed to jump! People are faced with having to jump off of a 10 meter tower or climb down - such an interesting view in to human vulnerability and choice. (the couple was my favorite..i laughed out loud). Watch it here

    Style

    Monday, February 6, 2017

I don't read Vogue but I guess I do, this article caught my eye because of this Italian shoe designers beautiful style/aesthetic. Maybe she'd do a closet swap with me. Mari? (I need more velvet pants)
