Hellloooooo, did you have a good w/e? (that abbrev was for you ashley). I had a relaxing friday night at home with wesley, a good run, a super fun birthday dinner/party in Basel, tea & scones on sunday and good ol' pub quiz with friends (we lost, major). and it was super cold...can't wait for some warmer weather - you know when you can just throw on shoes and walk out?

Here are some pics from around our flat - I have this urge lately to document it - I love looking at old pictures of the places we have lived. I love our home...

Yay or Nay?

The last few weeks I've finally gotten back in to running after having a baby back in October and it has felt so good. I kept up running until about 5 months then switched to the elliptical...but was sad all the time because I couldn't run! I'm so happy my gym has a daycare but also can't wait until the weather warms up so I can run outside again.

These fitness monitors keep coming up in my reader and everyone seems very excited about them. They seem like a great idea, but honestly, I can't get excited about being fixated on another gadget, another app, etc. Seems like just another thing that could steal my already stretched attention!

But maybe I'm missing out on something great? Have or do you use one? I think for now I'm giving them a pass...I want to enjoy my workouts while not worrying about steps...if that makes sense? Is there more to these than I think?

Let me know, yay or nay? And why?

p.s. i'm also too picky about jewelry to wear it, ha!

Pinterest Food Try

I tried this recipe for Braised Coconut Spinach and Chickpeas with lemon that I found on Pinterest...SO GOOD yo. so good. We had it with a sweet potato and also pasta.

Recipe/Photo Credit - TheKitchn.com

Braised Coconut Spinach & Chickpeas with Lemon
serves 4 as a main dish or 6 as a side

2 teaspoons oil or ghee
1 small yellow onion
4 large cloves garlic, peeled and minced
1 tablespoon grated ginger, from a 3-inch piece
1/2 cup sun-dried tomatoes, chopped
1 large lemon, zested and juiced (about 2 tablespoons juice)
1 dried hot red pepper or dash of red pepper flakes (optional)
15-ounce can chickpeas, drained
1 pound baby spinach
14-ounce can coconut milk
1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
1 teaspoon ground ginger

To serve:
Whole roasted sweet potatoes
Cilantro leaves, to garnish
Toasted unsweetened coconut, to garnish

Heat the oil or ghee in a large, deep Dutch oven or heavy pot over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook for about 5 minutes, or until the onion is beginning to brown. Add the garlic, ginger, sun-dried tomatoes, lemon zest and red pepper, if using. Cook for 3 minutes, stirring frequently.
Add the chickpeas and cook over high heat for a few minutes or until the chickpeas are beginning to turn golden and they are coated with the onion and garlic mixture.
Toss in the spinach, one handful at a time. This will take about 5 minutes; stir in a handful or two and wait for it to wilt down and make room in the pot before adding the next handful. When all the spinach has been stirred in, pour in the coconut milk and stir in the salt, ground ginger, and lemon juice. Bring to a simmer then turn down the heat and cook for 10 minutes or until the chickpeas are warm through. Taste and add more salt and lemon juice, if necessary.
Serve hot over roasted sweet potatoes, with cilantro leaves and toasted unsweetened coconut to garnish.
Serving note: This is thick enough to eat on its own with a fork; it's not terribly soupy. But it's saucy enough to eat over pasta, rice, brown rice, quinoa, or another grain.

My eyes love this aerial shot by Klaus Leidorf!

Have a great w/e you guys. I think a trip to Ikea (for meatballs...and picture frames...and candles), drinks around town, house cleaning and reading this fascinating book are all going down this w/e.

Here are some recent posts to peruse if you have missed out on Village lately!

Wearing this Winter

Thursday, January 17, 2013

Ok, so this is basically my winter style, it's all I want to wear - in addition to my big green warm parka. I just make sure to vary my company and destinations ;) I think I need to snap out of it. Actually, I'm usually in running clothes because we go in the afternoon and I find that I need to put them on in the morning so that I trick myself in to going (it works!). And yes that's an animal print scarf! Do you know how long I resisted animal print??? Then I found the perfect one at Zara and the rest was history. And now I wear animal print. Easy as that. Still no shirts/pants/or shoes though. We'll see.

1. Faux Fur Snood (Mine is from Express)
2. Grey Jeans (Mine are from H&M)
3. White Boyfriend shirt (Mine is from Wet Seal)
4. Leopard print scarf (Mine is from Zara)
5. Brown ankle boots (Mine are from Zara)

P.S. You can even verify this with my long time blog friend, Ashley, because now she is my real life friend after visiting a couple weekends ago!!! You can see her post on it here (where Wesley even makes an appearance, as does my bad hair and the standard white shirt). We had such a blast and I was so sad to see her and her friend go :(
