We are taking our first little family vacation to Lisbon in a couple weeks. I've been wanting to go there ever since i read Night Train to Lisbon a few years ago so I can hardly wait! Have you been? Do you have any tips on places to go? Anything would be appreciated!

Oh my gosh! how weird, i so almost booked a trip to Lisbon for April, but couldn't find anyone who had been for tips, recommendations or anything, so we're heading somewhere else instead. Peggy Wong's photos made me want to visit but that's really all i was going on!
Can't wait to hear all about it! x

Portugal is amazing!! Well, that said, I went when I was like 17years old with the family. But we loved it.
17yr old me enjoyed Cascais - a coastal town near Lisbon
The romantic in me was swooned by Pena National Palace (it's a truly fairy tale castle and we don't have those in SA!)
Sintra was a beautiful town not too far from Lisbon
I remember walking through the Alfama district and feeling as though I had been taken back in time.
The man who founded South Africa was from Portugal so I enjoyed the Discoveries Monument (a monument of all the seafarers i.e. de Gama, Diaz etc). I also remember a statue similar to Rio's Christ the Redeemer. (I like history stuff)
I remember the awesome bridge into Lisbon - but I love bridges too.
Food wise I remember salty dried fish, yummy olives and chicken. My mom still has stunning ceramics she purchased while we were there.
Not sure if this helps at all!

I loved Lisbon and its old town streets and all. You'll have a blast! :)
Go to Belem and try their Pasteis de Belem. :) Yummy and sort of a must when you're in the area. ;)

Abregado means thank you if you're a male, abregada for female. Get the chicken Piri Piri! Those are my only two tips as I went to a different town in portugal :)

I've never been before but you're going to have a blast! Wow, that picture is incredible... I'm sure you're going to come back with lots of stories to tell!

Oh wonderful Lisbon! An old city that actually looks and feels old, and not yet a tourist theme park like most (all) other European capitals! It's sadly dilapidated in many parts, yet that somehow adds to the charm. You'll find lots of tips online but may want to consider this itinerary: http://www.lisbonlux.com/lisbon/itinerary.html

Also don't miss Sintra!

That photo is of one of Lisbon's several viewpoint terraces. Visit them all if you enjoy taking photos and beautiful views!
Have a great trip!

Definitely go to Belem for pastel de nata in Pasteis de Belem! It's the best!

Eat a bifana sandwich, rotisserie chicken, and seafood.

Palacio de Pena in Sintra is beautiful but be prepared to climb the hills.
