my tumblr

Have a great weekend you guys. I plan to hang out with my boys,  maybe some shenanigans with my girls, maybe some shopping in zurich...and definitely checking out some christmas markets!

As usual, here are some places around the web that caught my attention this past week:

+Try the faux leather legging look for under $20 - thanks Carly ;)

+ Hilarious - the worlds biggest leaf pile and jumping in to it

+ Geometric food art

+ The cutest gender reveal photo series that I think I've ever seen

+ A great article on Authenticity by London-based solo artist Jono Mccleery. Also, a beautiful song by him here.  (I saw him perform last Sunday at Blickfang in Zurich, it was incredible)

+ Last week was post-natal depression awareness week: I really loved and appreciated reading this honest blog post regarding the subject by a mother.
+ need a sharpie and a white ikea chair for this cool DIY...
+ I would not mind owning this turntable
+ The 100 notable books of 2012
Here is a recap of the posts here from this past week:

- Betsy & Iya Jewelry
- Really cool baby illustrations by Adele Enersen
- Christmas present ideas
- Snowflake Christmas cards
- My favorite time lapse video yet
- Micro-Cottage Dorms
- Aerial photos of Intersections

Intersections

Love these Navid Baraty photos of intersections from above - very cool idea. and inspiring..

Micro-Cottage

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

I stumbled on these micro cottages for students and thought they were so cool to see so I had to share. I never would trade in the college dorm experience to have been able to live in one of these, but...it's a pretty interesting set up! See more photos here.

P.S. I bought the sweater. My friend says I can pull it off, I'm sure going to try!

Time Lapse video

The picture above is a shot from a really awesome time lapse video of planes approaching London Heathrow's airport - the video makes them look like toy planes floating around...it's one of the coolest time lapse videos I've seen - check it out here

Enjoy your Wednesday, it's grey and rainy here..perfect day to me ;)

Snowflake Christmas Cards

Tuesday, November 27, 2012

These Christmas cards are by far the coolest I've seen around. The seller explains, “This collage of snow crystal micro-photographs was originally taken in the 1920s by Vermont farmer Wilson Bentley; individual snowflakes were caught on black velvet and photographed before melting.”

Do you send out Christmas cards? Some years I do, some I don't - I'm definitely not on the ball every year (the guilt!), but I want to be!

P.S. These were my favorite cards last year

Christmas Gift Ideas

Monday, November 26, 2012

Sooooo I'm not in the Christmas spirit quite yet...or I'm really lazy, but I have not worked up the motivation to work on christmas guides (which I usually love to do). But I do have the motivation to like things myself...so I think every now and then I'm just going to throw up some things that I fancy and maybe it gives you inspiration?
Have you started Christmas shopping? I have actually! Have you started listening to Christmas music? If so our friendship is over. I'm kidding!!! Seriously, I am. But I can't do it until December. Then we can be friends again and even listen to it together.

1. Earrings by Kerrie Yeung ($42) - because I like shiny things
2. Ryan McGinness To-Do List Calendar ($24.95) - because I make a freakish amount of lists
3. Onesie pajama's (107 gbp) - so I can match Wesley. and they are amazing.
4.  J. Crew Moccasins ($39.50) - because I'm FREEZING right now and the washer ruined my other ones.

Adele Enersen

Happy Monday friendos, I trust you had a lovely long Thanksgiving Weekend? Or regular weekend? I watched the James Bond movie, shopped, celebrated Thanksgiving with some american and swiss friends, and spent Sunday at Blickfang in Zurich (an International Design Fest) - the weekend was relaxing, fun and full of good friends. And now to the week!

I'm dying over these hilarious sketches by Adele Enerson using her baby Vincents sleeping poses :) You might have heard of her before as she is the creative mind behind the 'when my baby dreams' photos and book.
You can see more at her blog

Betsy & Iya

The structural awesomeness that this necklace from Betsy & Iya would bring to a simple outfit is perfection. (which is basically true of all of their jewelry).

I also love these earrings...

P.S. Have a great Thanksgiving all of my Americanas! We are celebrating on Saturday night:)

The famous Cabrio

Tuesday, November 20, 2012

I had to share this fun photo from our ride on "the worlds first convertible gondola" that we tried out when marks family was visiting a couple weeks ago...it was pretty cool! I was impressed that it was a convertible and felt thrilling...Mark was impressed with the hydraulic mechanics of it (if that means anything to you). Wesley was not impressed that his ears were popping (or not popping, who knows).

{If you are ever in the Luzern area and want to go up a mountain, I'd definitely recommend this ride that takes you up the Stanserhorn as opposed to the tourist loved Pilatus mtn}

Happy Weekend you guys! I'm not sure what we are up to - having no plans is fantastical, I tell you. Is hanging out with Wesley a plan? Maybe hot chocolate by the river? Christmas shopping? Because omg christmas is next month.

Can I just tell you that Wesley slept for a 9 hour stretch last night. The kid is 6 weeks old...He's been sleeping long stretches but that was pretty amazing. And when he wakes up at 4:30 and I change him, he is smiling and laughing (and pooping) I almost don't want to put him back to bed! I say almost...because dudes, I like sleep.

Ok enough bebe talk. What are you up to in life?

The First Day On Earth

Wednesday, November 14, 2012

A long time ago I read and saved this beautiful post titled, "The First Day on Earth"- I revisited it recently and knew I had to share. So dear wesley and dear all of you:
First, you need to relax. I know it's not as warm as it once was but you get used to the cold and warmth can be found in the people around you. Secondly, do not get used to crying to get things. Some people never grow out of it. Avoid them. Spend time around people who smile in the face of despair. Learn from them all you can. Everyone is a lesson. A story. A unique and wondrous perspective on the chaos that is human existence. The more people you talk to, the more you understand it. But never speak if you have the opportunity to listen. Especially if you want someone to like you. There's nothing you can say that'll endear someone to you as much as really and truly listening to them. You are on day one of a sometimes remarkable, sometimes terrible, sometimes beautiful, strange and always completely unknown journey. Be ok with this. Worrying about what happens next will ruin the surprise. You will meet strange people along the way, some good, some bad. This is a pattern that will more than likely repeat constantly as you grow up. Some things will be good, some things will be bad. Neither will ever last forever. Nothing will stay the same. Appreciate every moment of happiness and remember it when you despair. Hold them close. And when you are happy, remember the moments of despair and think to yourself, "I told you so." Never let someone else define you. You are your own creation and only you decide how you feel, who you are and what you want. This can be scary at first but it is liberating to truly and utterly embrace your own identity. People who hate you for not being like them are not worth hating back. Please, let go of hate whenever you can. Accept love whenever it is given and give it out freely. It is the most powerful force on earth.

Enjoy your stay.

aaaand I'm here. the last couple of weeks have been ca-razy. marks family came to visit - it was so nice but we were running all over switzerland and beyond and then i was getting laaaid-up sick for like 4 days with strep throat (timing coincided nicely to have round the clock baby care for the duration though!).  Wesley is like, over a month old now which I'm still in denial I even HAVE a child so pretty much at his highschool graduation i'm going to be like, "you're mine?? i have to pay for your college????? WHERE DID YOU COME FROM? what!!!"  He's sleeping predictably at night....he has taken his first vacation to another area of switzerland, his first boat ride across lake luzern, he's been to Lichtenstein and France and Germany now. pretty much everything he does is a "first" though so writing like this could get tiring....his favorite thing ever is to lay on his changing table, so like a good mom I leave him there for a bit so i can like...make coffee and blog. jk. i don't blog while he is there, he's next to me right now fighting a nap (his other fave thing to do!).

anyway, happy monday you guys. my sister in law, liz, took this gorgeous picture of snowy luzern a couple weeks ago.

lets get back to business after this, k? k!

how are you?
