My favorite picture from the royal wedding...killer shades.  (purchase them here)

Bon Weekend friends! And congratulations to me that my blog is back after it went missing on Thursday morning! That was super lame. I woke up to find that my email was closed due to suspicious activity - google had to send me a text with a ver code to get back in - but my blogs were gone too - wiped from the Internets without a trace! It was like some movie Matt Damon would be in. After going through a process outlined in the help forums I'm back - but, so not loving blogger anymore. Who do you use to host your blog? And what are you up to this weekend?

+ efreeme.com  - owner, Diana, writes a {hilarious article} on efreeme over at You Are My Fave. I am a strong supporter of efreeme and have loved watching it grow over the past few months. have you thought of opening an online shop? This is where you should go - there are no service fees. YOU get the money. brilliant right?! i even have one!

+ Erased photographs.
I loved reading the memories under these, you can kind of imagine the photo..

+ iTrevor
Hilarious - this kid makes youtube videos of him dancing to music in apple stores...you'll love it

+ Photographer, Ai Weiwei, is detained in and disappears from China.
This is crazy. Here's a .

+ My new favorite shot by the Sartorialist
He is so dapper!

+ FB's 'send' button
FB created a little send button that will sit next to the 'like' button on sites..I like this idea!! I think this is especially important for bloggers - there have been so many times I've wanted to share an article but no social media buttons! sad :(

+ Prince Charles viral video
Prince Charles dancing with some youth back in the day- too funny =)

The day to day

Tuesday, April 26, 2011

I had to share this calming moment from home today - the evening sun was flooding the apartment, bama was nestled in to his bed by the window (where he usually keeps watch over the yard) and the smell of zucchini bread filled the apartment. It was happy =) (except i burnt the top of the bread...)

Bracelets

I would love these bracelets. Like they were my own children. And layer them.  If I could afford them.

P.S. thanks for the comments on the flat yesterday! I'll definitely share some photos of the inside when we get to see it (it's being renovated now)

Was your weekend good? Besides our day trip to Lausanne, we have ended up feeling so glad we stayed home... I think it's because this is our favorite spot in Europe so we don't even need to leave, ha! M is enjoying his last day of vacation today and I'm thinking and thinking about our new flat (sneak peak above). I can't wait to move already!

Happy Friday and Easter Weekend, what are you up to? Our travel plans this w/e are a huge fail - we were meant to go to Amsterdam but the overnight trains were full because we waited too long to book them...oopsy! So, instead we'll avoid the easter crowds (huge plus), grill out with friends, visit Lausanne and maybe plan our next travels a bit better!

*This David Thorne email skit thing is one of the funniest things I've seen in awhile.
I don't even know how to explain to you what it is, but it's funny.

* It Get's Better (a must see)
Is a video filmed by Apple employees that encourages kids who are being bullied, who are gay, transgender, etc - that it will get better. I wish everyone could see this!

* Fran Domínguez (a photographer)
His photos are with such attitude...it's not about the girl really, "but a lifestyle" he says. Would be fun to have a feisty photo shoot with him!

*A Watch
Seriously considering this.

My favorite posts here this week:

Advanced Style - a new kind of street fashion blog

Advanced Style

Thursday, April 21, 2011

"Respect your elders and let these ladies and gents teach you a thing or two about living life to the fullest.Advanced Style offers proof from the wise and silver-haired set that personal style advances with age." {ari seth cohen}

I can't begin to explain to you how much I love this website (that I found thanks to Pistachio). Ari Seth Cohen takes street style photography to a new level as he photographs older adults for his blog, Advanced Style. I'm pretty passionate about older adults (my whole social work other life) so I get a huge kick out of the interviews he does with some of his subjects. HUGE kick. I love this. (I sent him some questions that I was so curious about but he has not responded. Lame, mr. cohen, lame )

I'm proud to be ___ years old <- love this!

And my new favorite style related quote: "Fashion says 'me too' but style says 'only me'" - Lynn Dell on an interview video for Advanced Style

Enjoy it!

Rome

Wednesday, April 20, 2011

Hey, is posting photos like this an ok idea? Is it obnoxious? Or do you prefer larger pictures? I can't decide and I had too many photos that I was excited to show.  Do you remember when we had to develop film and then go pick it up and then plan a time with our friends to flip through the actual photos to show stuff like this? Those were the days!

You can watch my photo blog for better displays in the future. Currently there are photos posted of walls. Because I walked around Rome and Florence taking pictures of them. Seriously. I wish I were a passerby seeing me while I was doing that!

2x2. red things..

Tuesday, April 19, 2011

Red is in the house! today. I like red, yes I do, when I can be bothered to reach for something else than my standard neutral colors. Neutral like switzerland, but the swiss color is red - Maybe I'm it's human counterpart? Except that people here wear completely red shoes all the time which is weird...I'm not making sense anymore must. lay. off. the. coffee.

I think I have a new girl crush, she is awesome!
And happy Monday to you..did you have a good weekend? I did some shopping in Zurich, some relaxing at home and some patio'ing in the sun with spritzers. But the highlight was that one of my fave friends in der Schweiz threw a tea party for her birthday complete with appetizers, an array of cupcakes that she made, a red velvet birthday cake - and some fellow bloggers were there! Needless to say I was sick on the way home but I should have eaten more. (happy birthday again, my dear!)

This was my favorite picture from all of this week, maybe a few weeks since that cat one. I have a soft spot for the Brontosaurus - ever since I was a tiny girl and a song in my ballet class talked about him not being very smart but having a really big heart...see, he's cute!
{image via lost}

+ Can't stop listing to this Madrugada song

+ I love this cosmos necklace

+ I love this balcony pallet garden and these indoor terrariums

+ Some "Village" love and an amazing dress. (thanks jess!)

+ You should jump in on the Outside Voice photo project, Shades of Spring

+ Feeling like I must visit Central Spain after this video

+ Elderly retirees share what they wished they realized when they were younger.

+ Even Jay-Z is a blogger.

+ Vintage hand loomed wool blanket...there's something about it.

Gerhard Richter

Thursday, April 14, 2011

"These blurred paintings of photographs are close to reality but also contain a nostalgic distance, because the eye can never precisely capture the image being viewed, rather like trying to remember the features of a person whom one hasn't seen for a while." (source)
I've never been one to claim a favorite artist but as silly as it sounds, my world might have just shifted a little with the discovery of photo-based painter, Gerard Richter (thank you to nga waiata). Born in Dresden in 1932 he grew up during the Nazi movement with significant family involvement on both sides of the tragedy.  Thanks to his mother he was encouraged to study art and the rest is beautiful history. (You can read more of his interesting biography here) He has such a wide variety of work and my only disappointment is that some of his pieces been sold for millions, ensuring that I'll never get to own one =(

The top left painting is of the Vierwaldstättersee (The lake of the 4 forested cantons or Lake Luzern), the lake that I live on - and the left is of the beautiful alps. sigh. It attracts me because I live there, but also, it reminded similar-ish pictures that I've taken.

Anyway, I'm completely enamored.

What studs!

When it comes to jewelry, my day to day habit definitely involves simple earrings (like these) and one of my favorite necklaces (this Brideblu one, this one or this Noble Town Vintage one) - I'm definitely a less is more kind of girl AND these are amazing (green is my favorite color). Too bad the price on these is way high for me because they are gorgeous but my new goal is to find similar ones!

Rooms in Helsinki

I feel like these rooms are a prime example of investing in things that you love, minimalism and surrounding yourself with carefully curated items - something I'm working on. And now that we'll be moving to a new flat in the city, I am a sponge for decorating options and changing some things up! (not sure I love that term - "sponge",  but anyway)
{My recent purchases towards this goal are here}

Way cool.
So, I'm working on Roma pics...but now is a good time to vent that Picasa randomly deleted all of the pictures I uploaded from my camera from Rome - and they are nowhere to be found. Like, not even in the trashcan. WTH. So, I must re do it all. happy monday bye!

A Most Pretty Photo & Happy Friday to ya'll.

Friday, April 8, 2011

I can't get enough of the beautiful photos at this blog. Does anyone else try endlessy to get the perfect rain picture? One these days.

And I have no links today, but I do have a guest post over at Good Good, which is a blog I happen to enjoy a lot so you should check it out in lieu of my blogging disorganization and utter chaos after not having looked at much while I had visitors. While you're there I'll be here trying to whip this thing back in to shape. ciaooo!

Hellooo amigos! I am missing the blogging thing but we are having an amazing time with our friends - but they already leave tomorrow and I'm already so sad. Can't wait to catch up with you!

P.S. Love when pictures turn out wrong like the above one from Rome!
