air bnb and the neatest flat.

Wednesday, November 2, 2011

For this trip we used AirBnB for the first time and I'm in love. It's a website where you can rent out a room or a whole apartment to other travelers...kind of like couch surfing but maybe classier or something? I don't know, just kidding - I've never done couch surfing so I have no clue. It sounds kind of surfer-ish so I can't help but think of potheads on my couch. Which would be more than fine, but I'm just saying. Anyway, AirBnB.

Right, this is the loft we chose...killer right? We didn't want to leave when we got there, we had to drag ourselves out, we didn't think Barcelona could actually be cooler than that loft. Good thing it was though! The only truly sucky part was that it was loud, which I knew about it. But the kicker was this stupid kid who rode his skateboard by and then tried flipping it? jumping it? I don't know...anyway, he did this for like an hour in front of our window (at MIDNIGHT when we had to get up at 4) and I had the most unpleasant thoughts toward this child!! I was also equally impressed with his drive/dedication to learn whatever it was that he was sucking at! Like, he never improved during the whole hour.

Anyway, I better go to sleep.

PS i had THE crappiest paella in Barcelona. It was like salt, instant rice and some seafood. BLEH. But on the other hand had the BEST tapas in the whole world.

You should totally have stolen that place. With magic or something. It's worth the effort trying to figure out the logistics.

is that a chalkboard door?! you're right, it IS the coolest loft ever. i love your hatred yet admiration toward the sucky skateboarder. i would have yelled at him. i'm glad you had fun in barcelona!! well, besides the crappy paella..

I'm so glad you guys had a good experience! It makes me want to try it again. Note to self...do not pick the flat with neon decor.

Oh, that's too bad about the kid and paella. But I'm happy that your flat is amazing, love these pictures. Tapas is so good.

Thanks for sharing!

I was exploring AirBnB and they have nice and intuitive web site and I love the idea!
WE are thinking to offer a part of our space through it as well.

The Barcelona apartment looks really gorgeous! And it looks like you had bad luck with paella :)

Really nice apartment but oh... the noise factor. What is with this kid's parents for allowing him to disturb neighbors??? I really believe that there aren't any bad kids... just bad parents! But at least the apartment was sooo pretty!

That flat looks wonderful. It must have been so hard to leave. Plus, vacation, I mean really.

Sorry about the bad food experience. I always want every meal when I'm visiting somewhere new to be transcendental. You know what I mean? That doesn't always happen though.

Great apartment- there are a lot of great organizations for house share, swap etc. nowadays.

We are avid Couch Surfers- love to surf and host- never had a pot head and I usually surf at places that have similar accommodations to what we offer- guest room with a bed.

I wrote a post about it a while back:

What a rad looking place. Will bear this in mind next time I want to go to Barcelona.

I am not actually surprised about the Paella - it is not a traditional dish for Barcelona, but rather originated in Valencia (where you will obviously find the best Paella in Spain).

I bet that most of the joints in Barcelona hawking paella are catering to tourists, but there are apparently some hidden gems in the city that serve great paella! And usually prepared by Valencian chefs...

Wow, so lovely. I'd want to live there, until you mentioned the skate boarder. Don't they have curfew for teens there?

Sounds like Barcelona would be far more city than I'd want to be in.

What an interesting kitchen. So much open windows, and all. Dang, Skatboarder. How could he?

did you eat anything but pork? By boss went to Madrid and complained that the tapas was all "jamon" - pork. I have a hard time believing him though..!
