Rooms in Helsinki

Tuesday, April 12, 2011

I feel like these rooms are a prime example of investing in things that you love, minimalism and surrounding yourself with carefully curated items - something I'm working on. And now that we'll be moving to a new flat in the city, I am a sponge for decorating options and changing some things up! (not sure I love that term - "sponge",  but anyway)

you are right, this place looks super nice and beautiful! I am trying to find a really old and worn wood table at the moment, I have a love for vintage furniture going on at the moment :) haha.
and no worries, my trip to moscow is for business, but hopefully I will be able to squeeze in a short sightseeing tour on Saturday!
have a lovely tuesday, we have such a grey sky here today... ihhhh...

Great images, this is how I would love my flat to look like if I was living in a city:) The floors are particularly excellent, and I love the contrast between old and modern.

Lovely! I love the simple minimalist style. I love the feeling of excitement before decorating a new place. When in a new country, it can be a bit frustrating as I have to learn where to get what first, but it's all worth the wait. Good luck! I hope you'll post the photos of your new flat on your beautiful blog! I love the new look!!

I totally agree - it's about collecting those quality pieces (Err hence why I've been buying all those Hermes scarves - apparel AND decor!)

I love this place! I'm really into clean and spacious places, probably because the houses I grew up in were always cluttered.

I'm living in a house that's been around for generations (before the 60s), so I don't feel like doing much with the decorating! I feel like moving into a new place would spark inspiration... a new clean slate... or flat! Have fun moving!!

Agreed!! Photos like these make me want to go out and splurge on things I don't have yet and redecorate my place.

i completely agree - and i'm trying to be the same way. sometimes it's hard to wait though, when you see something that's almost like what you want and it's cheaper. but in the end i've found it's still better to wait until you find exactly what you want and spending the money on it. in the end it's worth it! but it's still a struggle :P

Yes, I need to be more careful when it comes to buying pieces for the home. I want to make sure I get quality pieces that have purpose of some sort, whether it's just to make me happy or something better. We're buying a house soon, and we'll need tons of new stuff. My goal is to make it look polished like these spaces!

I'm trying to do the same thing, but I am so indecisive I usually go cheap so if I change my mind it doesn't matter.

But earrings and alcohol chillers are the perfect first step me thinks!

I've been doing the same thing, every night browsing beautiful apartments in Paris to rent for 2 weeks! It's a new obsession.

I love the light wood floors of the rooms in the upper right corner. Lovely!

New to this blog. It's great! And I've travelled to your city. You are so lucky to live in such a beautiful place!

Meri said...

These are so beautiful. They are not too minimalist but they are tidy and clutter free which I always find much nicer than flats with a lot of stuff in them. White is a great base colour and I generally like neutral colours in interior design, much easier to change and spice up with smaller, colourful things.

And nothing is better than lots of light and space!

Catita said...

simplicity is beauty right!? love it!

Ashley said...

I like minimalism too, but I always end up buying too much, I think. haha

I WANT ROME AND I WANT IT NOW.

I'll be patient, I promise.

i wish i had a stack of money that i could only spend on home decor so i could do something like this. the problem is, when i get money i tend to spend it on clothes and shoes.

What a great apartment. I adore scandinavian design and everything that looks so clean, fresh and simple. Maybe because it is so different in my house...it's clutter, clutter, everywhere. And cats, of course.

i feel the same way--slowly but surely editing all my possessions and holding on to the ones i love the most.

I love when a room looks minimal but really has tons of stuff in it just placed to perfection. That is what I am going for and so far NOT achieving. Minimal looks great but it lacks warmth. I am loving Emily Henderson http://www.stylebyemilyhenderson.com/blog/episode-7-where-it-all-started.html
she does minimal with loads of stuff but it seems warm yet uncluttered. Hmmm just go see. :)

What a beautiful space. I love the minimalist look but it is harder to achieve in a family home than I thought.

Thanks for you kind comment about my take on "If My Blog Were A Room" over at Simple Dwellings. I hope you had a chance to visit www.timberandlace.blogspot.com. I am working on achieve some rustic minimalism in my house.
