You might have seen on the Twitter that a few days ago I was heading to spend the night in an igloo? Here it is! It was the by far one of the coolest things I've ever done (no pun intended). The igloo hotel (Iglu-Dorf) is located in Engelberg, a popular ski resort area for central Switzerland. It also serves as an ice bar during the day for skiiers. The igloo is rebuilt every year and each year they bring in a new artist to decorate the inside - which you can see in the dining area and bedrooms - it was seriously impressive! (our bedroom was the elephant one). Our overnight stay included drinks, a snack tray, a fondue dinner (incredible), a snowshoe hike and use of the 2 person hot tub and then a breakfast at the lodge in the morning. And yes, it was SO COLD. But amazingly warm sleeping bags were provided so sleeping was no issue. And they woke us up by bringing in hot tea to our room, which I could get used to. OH and I saw a naked man coming from the hot tub...geez Europe.

WHAT! No central heating? oh I am so funni.. :) that is certainly a "must do". Note to oneself..... Been to Engelberg, loved the little town, just for the time I was there, went up the titlis - was nice. But this 'otel looks interesting.
How wonderful. Looks like a cool place to stay (pun intended)...and fairly reasonable prices too.
How amazing is that?! Look at the design on the walls. Would love to do something like that :) xx
oh wow sooooo pretty!! love the elephant and the buddha, did not expect them to do real decoration in the snow... and haha about the naked man: welcome to switzerland :)
have a nice sunny weekend, kristina
Lovely pictures, I'm sure it was a great experience! There are a couple of ice hotels here in Norway too, one of them is situated in the city of Alta in Finnmark, Norway's northernmost county. I haven't been there, though.
This looks like such an awesome and unique adventure!!!
Oh my gosh, I'm so envious! This looks like an unforgettable experience! I'm kind of a polar bear (I love the cold) so I don't think I would have minded the whole "freezing" thing . . . especially with warm sleeping blankets. This has me wanting to save my pennies so I can make a trip to the igloo hotel!
Waaaaaaaauw this is great!!!
hehe...I still can't do "team showers" after practice with my basketball team!! This is SO COOL! I love it!
wow!!! what an amazing experience. The place looks wonderful, and I love those elephants on the ice walls. Still cannot imagine how sleeping was with all that cold :-) ha ha. Thank you for sharing :-) have a lovely Sunday.
so awesome!!! I'm so jealous!
Happy belated birthday to M :-)
I can't believe you went... was it uncomfortable!? IT looks sooo beautiful! I am quite jealous! Cheers to new experiences!

Wow, that an awesome place!
That sure looks like a night to remember! Think we have something similar up north in Norway (maybe in Tromsø) if I am not mistaken. I should really go check it out once :)
Hugs,
Signe
Wow! What a cool idea! I don't think I'd be brave enough to attempt a night in that, though. I'm a total chicken when it comes to cold temperatures! And... wasn't the naked guy FREEZING? Although I've heard that in Sweden in the winter, people get naked and go from sauna to sea, sauna to sea, etc. because the hot & cold temperatures revive the body or something!
Also, the rabbit in your header is SUCH a cutie pie. Fave header so far.
♥ Leia
beautiful. x hivennn
I so need to do this next year!!! I love those photos and I bet it was fantastic! Happy Sunday, darling
Ps: We are having a spring-like weather today. Im so going biking :)
The designs are really cool and I wouldn't really mind the cold with those cosy blankets!!
That looks SO fun but I'm not sure I like the cold enough to ever want to go, hehe.
hehehehe look at me giggling about the naked man....i don't think i will ever graow up lol
It look completely magical!
We have a frozen bar in Sydney but it doesn't even come close to this.

You know, when you mentioned this, I thought you were joking...but this looks like an amazing time...and not many people can say they slept in an igloo. I must add it to my things to do before I die list:)
so. jealous. hubs and I have looked up these type of things and have been interesting in checking one out! I'm glad you got a chance to stay and that it was just as amazing as you thought it would be. :)
Naked guys are sooo European. *rolls eyes*

I'm guessing you don’t want to do a late checkout in spring….

Oh my gosh! I'm so jealous of your overnight. I've always wanted to do this - even though I'd be afraid of freezing to death! How incredible!

What a wonderful hotel!!!!
Have a nice day,
Yvonne
What an incredible place! I read a little while ago about someone getting married in an igloo hotel in Iceland - not something on my ''to-do'' list it has to be said!
Nakedness in Europe knows no bounds:-). You lucky girl you-i'd so love to stay in that igloo hotel! XX
I saw something like that during the Holidays but it was a restaurant. A hotel is way more cool!

Hahaha... that last sentence. : P This place is awesome!! I need to get Twitter to keep up with your amazing adventure; I was going to say "why didn't you tell me you were going to spend the night at an amazing igloo hotel?!" Haha! Love the bunny in your name, btw. : )

Joanne Faith xo
That is seriously the coolest thing ever! I mean, who ELSE can really say they spent the night in an Igloo? I know of nobody! ;) (Well, besides you!)
amazing! i don't know that i would be able to bear the cold for that long, but it definitely seems like something worthwhile to add to to things you've experienced!
There is one in Oslo as well, but not so nice. Cute elephant :)
Unbelievable! Just loving this! This is totally right up my alley, would love to go!

hahaha! to naked man! Well yeah this is Europe and going to a spa in the NL is no different! It seems weird at first but after you just feel so free to be naked...although I would not go naked to a spa back home!
And the igloo! i've always wanted to stay at the ice hotel in either Quebec or the place in Sweden. I had no clue they had it in the Swiss country too! cool, do you mind me asking how expensive it was?
Wow! I looked at the website and it looks really cool (no pun intended). It looks like a great adventure, thanks for sharing!
xo

Awesome and brr! I've always wanted to stay at an ice hotel but I'm such a chilly willie wuss--seriously I start complaining when it's in the 60s. :( That fondue looks yummy!

I'm in awe...I so want to go! Looks like such a cool experience!
I've always wanted to stay in a place like that. But wouldn't the bathroom be freezing after you get out of the shower? I don't get how that works. It looks so pretty though. And the ELEPHANT room! I love elephants.
When we stay at my boyfriend's parents place in Scotland they always bring us hot tea in the morning. I love lounging in bed.
What a magical place and what an adventure.
Thanks for sharing your experience. :)
Leaving the House in THIS?!?!
hahahaha "c'mon europe! put some pants on!"
looks amazing though. but seriously, i'm cold just looking at your photos!
Unbelievable. This is so cool.
This place looks amazing! How cool!! I've seen one in Sweden, but didn't know that one existed in Switzerland. I would love to go there some day! It looks romantic.

No freaking way!! This is the coolest thing EVER. I can't believe they rebuild it every single year!
How on earth did you not freeze to death though? I think I would have just stayed in the hot tub the whole time.. haha.
I'm definitely adding this place place to my list of things to do before I die.
impressive! I am looking forward to visiting also a hotel like this!
I am so happy you left this link with your comment on BlackEiffel! I can't wait to poke around your blog more and you pretty much sealed the deal that I HAVE to go do the ice hotel thing in January. (Canada) Even if I can't make it to that cool place in Lapland right away. One of the you tube videos of the place made me less enthralled with it than the photos ... Thank you!
