(Review here)

P.S. I hope you have a fun halloween, my friends...don't do anything I wouldn't do. (Which actually gives you a lot of freedom I think). Mark and I are spending it in Germany wandering around Stuttgart and other little German towns. I like being here because I can understand (ok, kind of) the people when they talk as opposed to understanding Swiss people and their crazy 'swiss german'. Can't wait to share some pics! Oh, and so we got a free upgrade and can use the business lounge in the hotel - is it bad that I just want to drink the free pepsi's constantly? I feel like a little kid.

P.S.S. I hope you entered the El Vintage cute handbag giveaway!!

Here's how..

Cowls are the new black

I am loving the idea of cowls or eternity scarves lately - they would solve my problem of where to put the ends of the scarves? Do you have that problem? Maybe I didn't get the memo? Idk. Either way they are cool. And look, I even found some for the men...

Parisian flat lays untouched for 70 years...

Monday, October 25, 2010

Did you read this article about this gorgeous looking Parisian flat that they just opened after 70 years??
"Behind the door, under a thick layer of dusk lay a treasure trove of turn-of-the-century objects including a painting by the 19th century Italian artist Giovanni Boldini."
The owner left for the South of France before the Second World War and never returned - she was the granddaughter of a beautiful Parisian woman - a muse of the famous painter Boldini - and was portrayed in a painting in the apartment (which just sold for 2.1 million!!!)
"The muse was Marthe de Florian, an actress with a long list of ardent admirers, whose fervent love letters she kept wrapped neatly in ribbon and were still on the premises. Among the admirers was the 72nd prime minister of France, George Clemenceau, but also Boldini."
My only question is....I wonder how in the world you could not return to a beautiful flat in Paris!!

Only the best dessert to exist...

Zucchini Bars w/ Cream Cheese Frosting

Ok, so...I never really thought I'd be one to post recipes - but only because cooking was always sort of a 'have to' kind of thing - one that I never really enjoyed. Fast forward to living in Switzerland with a lot of time on my hands + some friends who make amazing things = an inspired girl. I've even learned the key ingredient to all foods - wine. Ok, well not the zucchini bars...but most things. And really, it doesn't even have to go in the food - as long as you have a glass nearby! (ammiright?)

This recipe actually comes from Marks aunt - and we make it over and over again. It's...incredible.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cooking time: 35-40 minutes / Preheat oven to 350
Zucchini Bars
2 C. Sugar * 4 Eggs * 2 Cups Grated & Shredded Zucchini * 1 C. Vegetable Oil * 1 tsp. Baking Soda *2 C. Flour * 1 tsp. Baking Powder * 1 tsp. Cinnamon * 1 tsp. Vanilla * 1/4 tsp. Salt
1. Mix together all ingredients and bake in a 10x15 pan at 350 for 35-40 minutes.
Cream Cheese Frosting
4oz. (or 3) of Cream Cheese * 1 1/3 C. Powdered Sugar * 1/2 Stick of Butter *1 tsp Vanilla
1. Mix together - Spread over Zucchini Bars when they have cooled.
Keep refrigerated.
Have you ever visited an online store and then...and then as you explore around your heart starts beating faster and faster with every click because you can't stop imagining the possibilities of this dress with that bag and oh my gosh, those are the perfect boots?  AND FRIENDSHIP BRACELETS?!
 Welcome to my head when I visit El Vintage....I'm not even kidding. Even her blog keeps me flipping through the archives..
Emily's Blog
Meet Emily, the inspiring owner of El Vintage Etsy shop as well as my newest sponsor! Honestly, it was love at first email - her excitement about her shop and what she does is super contagious and She is FULL of energy and love for it. Based on the huge and terrific selection she has - I can tell she is committed to bringing her customers the best - and talented at it. Also, as a self-proclaimed artsy kind of girl, I can appreciate the artistic side of Emily and her projects with El Vintage including the creation of her Luxe Necklace line, Friendship Bracelets and collaborations with different photographers for photo-shoots displaying her pieces (above, here, here & here).
And here is an interview with Emily from El Vintage so you can get to know a little about her!
Cardigans, Coats & Ponchos (and Cinnamon Rolls)
Monday, October 18, 2010
Like a lot of you, fall is my favorite season.  I love the pumpkins, the scarves, the cider and all of that, but mostly I love the fog, the rain, the bitter wind, and when dead leaves swirl in the air after a car drives by. It's just relaxing, quiet and beautiful. Plus, the ambiance seems to match all of my favorite songs, which is nice =) (There's just something about listening to I and Love and You that doesn't quite gel with the sun beating down on me and party-ers at the beach!)
I also love cocooning myself in coats and scarves all winter long (and blankets - I'm a total fan sleeper even in the winter)  - so, naturally, they are my favorite things to purchase =) I'm loving these selections from Urban Outfitters - I threw the purses in because I have a huge crush on them but can't decide which color I like best...so, which one!?
 P.S. I tried this Caramel Apple Cinnamon Roll Recipe yesterday...whoa...
P.S.S.S. GUESS WHAT! Yesterday, I found out that I should have been checking the "spam" section under the "Comments" tab in blogger - well i checked it and found so many comments from you guys from the last 2 months that I didn't see!!! I'm so embarrassed.
Swiss Sundays: The Fog
Sunday, October 17, 2010
For the past week and a half or so, where I live in Switzerland has been smothered with this grey damp moody fog - and I think it's absolutely gorgeous. I had to show you these two pictures because the sun isn't far away even though it appears to be so - all you have to do is climb a mountain for some blue skies, sunshine - and the added bonus of looking out over a huge sea of fog - it's pretty amazing! I'm thinking it's kind of the next best thing to being by an ocean =)
It's been too long since I gave Bama some face time here...I have to consciously reign myself in or he'd kind of take over this place and then I'd be the crazy dog blogger, you see. But one little Friday won't hurt me, will it!?
And do you see those eyes in that bottom picture? Those are the eyes I get when I've been on the computer for longer than he thinks is tolerable...those are what I have to fight in order to blog!
Happy Friday!
P.S. I'm trying the FB thing for the blog, I'm undecided about it but if you are in to liking blogs on FB it's over to the right!
Sabrina's Second Hand - Etsy
Tuesday, October 12, 2010
From the "Have a Heart" Collection
Ok, so I’m pretty excited to introduce you to Brina and her Etsy shop, Sabrina’s Second Hand (Repurposed & Vintage) as my first sponsor for this little blog!
I’m excited about it for several reasons (all of which I will probably ineloquently describe) – but mostly because I truly admire her – and you’ll see why in the interview below. Ok nevermind! Ah! I have to talk about it too – she has this project called “Have a Heart that you should check out.  It’s a completely beautiful and inspiring way that she is raising money to donate to different heart-related organizations in memory and honor of her brother, Trevor.  Now I’ll let you read more about it from her (below) but I know that it’s incredibly meaningful to her so I wanted to point it out...
And really…Brina’s shop is adorable and I love that making things and finding things for it gives her so much joy – and I love that she hopes that it gives just as much joy to the people who choose them.
Cuuute Vintage Milk/Glass Snack set!
And now - an interview with Brina =)
(Because getting to know people is cool!)
(She also has a personal blog and wedding blog!)
1. What inspired you to start an Etsy shop?
The moment I found out about Etsy, I wanted to open a shop. I'm very crafty and artistic and I thought it would be great to put a little bit of me out into the world! It was difficult at first, to find the time to do it, though, because I was going to college. This summer, I devoted a good chunk of time to blogging and setting up my shop.
2. I know the "Have a Heart" Project is very special to you - can you tell us about it?
Yes, "Have a Heart" is very special. Its sort of my chance to give back to the people and organizations who supported my brother, Trevor, throughout his life.
Trevor was born with a congenital heart defect and passed away in January at the age of 31. He had managed to live a somewhat "normal" life. He was married and had four children. He was my best friend. It saddens me that anyone should have to lose a friend or family member, especially at such a young age.
The "Have a Heart" Project was inspired by two other blogger women: Melissa of "Oh, My Darling" and Lindsay of "Pixies and Bears". Melissa had started a "Spread the Love" project. (You could link to her post here if you want.) Lindsay has been doing fund raisers for a while. She makes badges for her Etsy shop. I purchased her "Skin Cancer Awareness" badge, since that's something I really believe people need to be more informed about. So one morning, I was thinking about these two ladies and how I really want to be more like them, and make a difference.
I wanted to do something that I thought would make Trevor proud. I decided to use my craftiness to try and raise money for various organizations that I think he would have supported, starting with The American Heart Association. Ten percent or one dollar, whichever is more, of the proceeds from all of the items in my Etsy shop will be donated. In addition, I have a specific "Have a Heart" category in my shop. I will donate 100% of the profit from the sale of these items.
3. What is your favorite thing about blogging?
My favorite thing about blogging is the community I have built for myself. Before I started my blog, I was addicted to facebook. I guess the two are similar, only I come into contact with people I DON'T know through my blog. A lot of these people have similar interests as mine. People who live all over the country, and even in different parts of the world. I have made new friends. Even though we don't know each other very well, when something happens, whether good or bad, to one of your blogger friends you want to rejoice with them, or make them feel better!
4. What are 5 things that make you insanely happy?
Five things that make me insanely happy are:
1. My fiancé, Kris, because he is such a good person, a hard worker, and supports me and my craftiness. (He is ALSO an artist!)
2. Hello Kitty I cannot help but smile whenever I see her.
3. Arts and crafts. I work in retail and deal with unsavory people every day. Creating something fun or beautiful makes the crankies disappear.
4. My nieces and nephew. Although I haven't seen Trevor's kids in a while, they make me smile and laugh. We always have so much fun together.
5. PUPPIES! I love animals, especially puppies and miss not having one.
Thanks for answering my interview questions, Brina!
Giveaway & Leafcutter Designs
Tuesday, October 5, 2010
Guys!!! Today, I'm terribly excited to talk about Leafcutter Designs and the:
{Image via Leafcutter Designs}
Have you heard of this?!
Is it not the cutest thing in the world??
Giveaway Info at the bottom!
About a year and a half ago, one of these tiny letters from Leafcutter Designs landed on my doorstep - sent from Mark! It made me one of the happiest girls on earth - I mean - it came with a tiny microscope to read the letter and even was sealed with real wax =) I promptly put it in a little frame and it sits on my desk to this day, like so:
It's definitely one of my favorite possessions (I show everyone).
Anyway, I can't even begin to describe the coolness that is this shop (or the creative lady behind it, Lea).  She offers so many unique and delightfully inspiring things through her website - it's impossible not to find something ridiculously fun =) In addition to projects like The World's Smallest Post Service, she also offers a variety of goods in her shop ranging from seed earrings (for spontaneous flower planting!) to a kit to embroider your own letter - whatever it is, it's all about a personal touch using interesting mediums.  She also offers customized consulting for things like courting your significant other, weddings and more.  I definitely recommend exploring her website - everything she has to offer is so interesting and most off all - inspiring.
I particularly love that all of her projects are interactive - meaning you get to be creative and submit something to her and she'll incorporate it - i.e. ideas on courting, homemade stamps, 500 pencils project and Changing Clothes.  They are such great activities to participate in as a group of friends, couples or with a special child in your life...
Do you have someone in your life that you'd love to surprise with a tiny letter?
Lea has graciously offered to send a letter from The World's Smallest Post Service for one of you!
**How to Enter**
(it's easy!)
Visit Leafcutter Designs and leave a comment that tells us who you'll send a tiny letter to and why you'd like to surprise them by Sunday night (October 10th) - winner (as determined by Random.org) will be announced Monday morning!
