My Dog Tulip

Tuesday, August 10, 2010

I'm pretty sure I want to see this little film based on J.R. Ackerley's 1956 Memoir, My Dog Tulip. But I will have to read the book first!
Can you watch movies before reading the books? I can't!

I was just telling "style n" that i wanted to read Eat, Love, Pray before watching the movie. Yes, i definitely prefer to read the book prior:-).

I agree...usually like to read the books first. But, sometimes you just have to make exceptions :)

Looks like a very cute little movie! For me it’s a bit of both, sometimes I see a movie that is so good I have to read the book, and the other way around. But most of the time the book is better than the movie, regardless of the order I experienced them in :)

Yes, I'm with you on reading the book first before the movie, hopefully the movie delivers :) xoxo

books first, always for me!

I usually can because the book and movie tend to be so different, but once I've seen the movie it's rare I'll pick up the book. But if I loved the book I have to see the movie.

This looks brilliant, thanks for sharing! I really want to see it but think I could probably see it without reading the book (I have too many books on my bedside and would never see the movie if I waited!)

"Sometimes life really is a bitch"! lol.

I would love to see this movie! I would have to look up when it's coming out. Sometimes I realize there was a book the movie was based on AFTER seeing the movie, but that rarely happens. It is so much better to read the books first, but often times you don't enjoy the movie knowing that the movie doesn't have a lot of what was in the book (or was changed in some way)! Seeing the movie first makes you appreciate the book more... but I still go for reading the book first!

About your comment: If it was another Christopher Guest movie, was it Waiting for Guffman?

This looks soooooooo cute! I would definitely want to read the book before hand, but sometimes I find that reading the book afterwards is enhanced because now you can visualize who all the characters are!! I did that with Twilight & Marie Antoinette :)!

aw, that looks so sweet! i love that it's based on a true story. i also love that last line : "sometimes love really is a bitch." hahaha.

Books are definitely the way to go... but sometimes it's tempting cause the movies are like the perfect cheat sheet! Just enough information and highlights to understand, but the book is always where the true story telling is!

I hadn't heard of it! I can watch movies before I read the books but then I'm always disappointed by the latter.

I haven't heard of it... I try to read the book before seeing the movie but usually end up liking whichever I do first.

hm, interesting, you're the 2nd person I've seen post this trailer. now my interest in doubly piqued, maybe I'll check it out.

I try my darndest to read the book before the movie. For example: I saw a preview for "Never Let Me Go" about a month ago, and promptly read the book so I'll be prepped for the film. :)

I'm definitely more of a read a book before I see the movie. I can usually still read the book after the movie, but I just have to separate the two.

I ALWAYS try to read the book first. That's like one my favorite way of finding good books to read! In fact Water for Elephants is on my list simply because Reese Witherspoon is starring in it very soon!

Oh, that is so precious! I was smiling throughout the entire trailer! I want to read the book and see the movie now too!

For the most part I try to read the books before I see the movie, but sometimes I see a movie without realising there's a book and then go read the book after.
