Mapping it..

Thursday, August 19, 2010

I'm sure this would look great behind my couch! I'm in desperate need of some cool things for my walls...and I seem to be progressing very slowly. (I'm not even going to mention how long we've been in this flat)...
(find on Etsy here)

I love map related things, here are some more from a journey around etsy~

I ADORE map related things. I just picked up an old parchment replica of an Tudor map of London... but I'm yet to find a frame that'll actually fit it! That wallpiece is fantastic!

Should we send you a map of Iowa?? I love maps too. I thought you were going to blow up a photo a la Martha Stewart?

Oooh, I'm with you on map items. Love 'em! I decorated a lot in travel motif in high school as an expression of my desire to see the world. I've finally seen a bit of of, but I still love me a little mappage.

To answer your question, I've heard of Plato's Closet, but have never been to one. I'm sure there's one in LA or San Francisco, by I'm 4 hours from each (right, smack dab in the middle). I'll have to hunt it out next time in down south.

Curio is a consignment shop, but they only offer store credit, and they're really selective about what they take, so whenever I shop there I know I won't be sorting through racks of blah. Much as I love the idea of thrift storing I don't really have the patience for it. Curio really works for me :)

I love maps and feeling so connected, especially when I can make it specially tailored to where I've been. Hmmm maybe I can do this with a necklace or something?

I love maps so much! And that map rocks! You know, I have moved so many times and usually jump on the decorating straight away... But this time, I have lagged. I mean we don't have much anyway, and knowing that we aren't staying much longer, yes, might make decorating less motivating. But still it's so important! Most everything is done, except for our bedroom. Hello sacred space! That should be the first place, not the last... but of course it's better not to drown yourself in shoulds :) Hope you get the deco urge soon!

ooo i'll take that first map.. and the couch with it! i realized i need to look at maps more often.. i dont even know where half the places are in the world. how sad!

lancelonie said...

That looks very modern and cool! It reflects who you are.

If you have old maps that you've used it before, you can cut it into pieces and frame them like that. This way, your wall art becomes more personal, with a sentimental touch. :)

Pop Champagne said...

omg first picture is so awesome! I've never seen a world map so trendy

lancelonie said...

Thanks for visiting my blog!

I see you tried burning the edges of your map. That's a nice touch, too. There's a lot of ways to use your other maps, like using it as papier-mâché.

How about dropping a question about some uses of maps to my latest post? I'll use it as my Flickr photo inspiration and we'll see if people would react. :)

Here's a quick link...

Krystal!
you are so great and I always look forward to your new posts and comments also! I was also in shock about learning that Daisy is Gavin's daughter, I mean her mother in law is Gwen Stefani?? woow, unbelievable, kinda makes me feel old now!

lancelonie said...

LOL, Krystal! So you did leave a question. Thanks! =D

Heather {A Measure Of...} said...

I totally think that the lack of deco-motivation comes from not feeling permanent... Of course, we have to wonder when are we ever truly permanent? But the feeling of being perm, definitely makes fancy art purchases and decorating choices more exciting! When I get back, I'm going to put up some fairy lights... That always seems to help a little.

Krystal it's been too long. Work's running me in the ground. I miss our crazy comments. Wanted to check in before bed. I love maps and just the carefree feeling that comes from looking at them...like anything is possible.

If you and Mark get a map going on in your home you have to show us how you work it. I'm convinced I have very little on the wall because I always feel like I'm going to be moving...like I'm not quite home yet.

Enjoy your weekend!!

Carrie

Maps - yes, please. I love maps as well! Check out these gorgeous maps I posted over at EcoSalon:

http://www.ecosalon.com/accurate-future-maps/

The colors are stunning and the porportions are honest. Can you believe most flat maps are really inaccurate? Travesty, I know. Oh, and they have metallic (yes, metallic) seas. Sigh. I want one.
